Chelsea fans are all saying the same thing about Mateo Kovacic after Spain vs Croatia

Chelsea fans were quick to comment on Mateo Kovacic’s performance for Croatia against Spain on Saturday.

Mateo Kovacic started the game as a key player for Croatia, earning over 100 caps for his country.

However, the midfielder was unable to prevent Zlatko Dalic’s team from falling to a 3-0 defeat to Spain.

Chelsea only sold Kovacic to Manchester City last summer, so a lot of Blues supporters have not forgotten about him yet.

That was evident when they took to social media to comment on his display at the Olympiastadion.

Chelsea fans do not think Mateo Kovacic has changed

It has been a year since Kovacic left Chelsea for City.

Chelsea fans, though, do not think their former midfielder has changed at all following his move to the Premier League champions.

Watching him against Spain, many of them were quick to criticise his shooting on X and state that it is still poor.

One fan said: “Kovacic still can’t shoot.”

Another said exactly the same thing: “Kovacic still can’t shoot bruh.”

One Chelsea supporter felt Kovacic played well overall but could not overlook his poor finishing like the others.

“Kovacic has been superb despite losing, but he still shoots like he’s playing a through ball.”

Another was absolutely horrified with one shot the former Chelsea man took!

“Kovacic shooting a non volley shot is the worst thing in the world.”

Someone also posted: “Kovacic had the same chance [Fabian] Ruiz had a few minutes before. He’s a world class ball carrier but he will always be limited.”

Mateo Kovacic’s goal record at Chelsea

It is true. Kovacic’s shooting has never been great.

In 221 appearances for Chelsea, the Croatia international managed to score just six goals.

His record at Real Madrid was nothing to be proud of either. There, Kovacic netted just three times in 109 outings.

His biggest strength has always been dribbling, getting out of tight spots. As per FBref, Kovacic has ranked in the 83rd percentile for progressive carries among midfielders over the last year.

If Kovacic had goals to his game, he probably would be a really special player.
