The Headquarters Training and Doctrine Command Nigerian Army (TRADOC) has held the TRADOC Nigerian Army Library Day Study Period 2024.

While declaring the day open at the TRADOC Headquarters in Minna on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, the TRADOC Commander, Major General Kelvin Aligbe, stated that the forum comes at a time when all efforts are geared towards training, research, innovation, and the educational development of personnel in line with the Chief of Army Staff’s command philosophy.

This philosophy aims to transform the Nigerian Army into a well-trained, equipped, and highly effective force capable of fulfilling its constitutional duties in a joint environment.

The theme of this year’s study period is “Enhancing Research Potentials and Reading Culture of the Nigerian Army Personnel Through Effective Use of the Library.”

The Army Chief noted that the importance of this study period cannot be overemphasised, especially in an era of social media distractions, which have led to reduced concentration and fragmented attention among readers. Hence, the aim is to refresh minds on the crucial role of libraries.

General Kelvin explained that the essence of the TRADOC Nigerian Army Library Day Study Period is to engage and collaborate with other professionals on contemporary issues related to the use and application of library resources. This is intended to enhance the reading culture of Nigerian Army personnel, improving their critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

He added that it also aims to provide free access to information that will develop the research potential and educational growth of TRADOC Nigerian Army personnel through the practical utilisation of library resources.

In General Aligbe’s words: “This study period is seen as one of the platforms to actualize the command philosophy of the Chief of Army Staff.”

He pointed out that this year’s TRADOC Library Day Study Period is unique, as the chosen lectures reflect contemporary challenges facing libraries in our institutions.

Highlights of the event included paper presentations by guest lecturers, symbolic gifts to guest lecturers, school principals, and teachers, as well as the presentation of books and writing materials to all schools in the Military Cantonment.
