Adamawa: Mubi Maulud Committee secures release of 40 inmates

A charity organization, the Mubi Maulud Committee, has facilitated the release of 40 inmates from the Nigeria Correctional Centre in Mubi, Adamawa State.

The committee secured the inmates’ release by paying the fines that had kept them in custody.

Chairman of the Mubi Maulud Committee, Muhammed Shehu, who led the committee during a visit to the correctional centre, explained that the 40 inmates benefited from the intervention because their offenses were minor, with unpaid fines being the only obstacle to their freedom.

He said the gesture was part of the celebration of the 1446AH/2024 Maulud, an annual event commemorating the birth of Prophet Muhammad.

This year’s celebration includes a week-long series of activities across local government areas in the Adamawa North senatorial zone.

In addition to visiting the correctional centre in Mubi, where the committee also donated food items for the inmates, they visited the Mubi General Hospital and a maternity clinic, distributing drugs and cash to patients.

“The committee also visited the Maiha Road Graveyard (in neighboring Maiha LGA) and donated mats, shovels, diggers, and wood,” the committee chairman told newsmen.

He invited the general public to join the grand rally and procession scheduled for Saturday, September 21, starting from the Mubi City Gate and ending at the Mubi Emir’s Palace, where prayers for national unity and peace will be offered.
