Vice President Kashim Shettima has arrived in New York to represent Nigeria at the 79th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
The Vice President touched down at John F. Kennedy International Airport earlier today, where he was received by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf M. Tuggar; Minister of Communications, Innovation & Digital Economy, Dr. ‘Bosun Tijani; Director General of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Kashifu Inuwa; Nigerian diplomats, UN officials, among others.
At the behest of President Bola Tinubu, Vice President Shettima is leading Nigeria’s delegation to the 79th UNGA, where he will deliver Nigeria’s national statement and participate in various high-level meetings.
The annual gathering of the UNGA brings together world leaders and representatives from all 193 Member States, along with thousands of problem-solvers and passionate, engaged citizens for what’s known as High-level Week.
UNGA High-level Week kicks off on Sept 24 this year, preceded by the two-day Summit of the Future.
There, Member States are expected to outline ways the UN can adapt to meet emerging issues, from closing the digital divide and artificial intelligence to more equitable financing for low-income countries.
