One soldier feared dead as bandits ambush troops in Zamfara

One soldier was reportedly killed while four others escaped an ambush by bandits in the Dansadau axis of Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

DAILY POST gathered that the troops from Sector 1 were ambushed while on patrol and escort duty along Dansadau-Yar Galadima road.

According to a villager, Muhammad Isah, the ambush was staged at Mashayar Zaki area as the troops were escorting soldiers going on leave and civilian vehicles moving to a local market.

The source said that the military operatives were surrounded by bandits as bullets were flowing from all angles.

He said the troops engaged the terrorists in a gun duel.

“But we were not sure about how many bandits were neutralized in the gun battle,” he added.

Recall that the Dansadau axis of Zamfara State was under the control of bandits, a development which forced the Federal Government to establish a military settlement in Dansadau town.

With the establishment of the Army settlement in Dansadau, the bandits moved to other parts of Zamfara, leading to escalation of banditry in the state.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian Army has not issued any statement on the reported ambush as of the time of filing this report.

Also, all efforts to contact the state’s Police spokesman, ASP Yazeed Abubakar, were not successful as his numbers were not reachable.
