Delta State Assembly Conducts Public Hearing on Human Trafficking Prohibition Bill

On Monday, September 9, 2024, a public hearing on the Delta State Human Trafficking (Prohibition) Bill, 2024,was held at the press center of the Assembly.

Hon. Bridget Anyanfulu, the chairman of the committee opened the public hearing with a  welcome speech welcoming everyone and calling for their sincere contributions.

Recall that after the bill was read for the second time on the floor of the house it was referred to the house committee on housing, women affairs/girl child entrepreneur and humanitarian support services for scrutiny.

Thus, the committee decided to organise a public hearing intending to create space and provide members of the public and critical stake holders the opportunity and platform to offer their contributions on the making of the law.

Hon. Bridget said “the ultimate goal is to ensure that at the end of the day the state has a law that adequately answers to the challenges it seeks to address and satisfy the needs and aspirations of our people and society.”

The different stake holders in attendance presented their memoranda and contributions as well as the general public, which was well received by the house committee on housing, women affairs/girl child entrepreneur and humanitarian support services for consideration.

Finally, the committee chairman thanked the representatives of the several NDA’s in attendance for their response to the call for the public hearing on short notice and also for all their contributions.
