A total of 68 graduates of the Edo State University, Uzairue have been inducted into the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria, NMCN.
DAILY POST reports that the inductees are graduates of the Department of Nursing Sciences of the university.
They were inducted into the council by the Registrar, NMCN, Ndagi Al-Hassan represented by Dr Dorothy Oneh, the Deputy Director of the council.
Al-Hassan who congratulated the inductees said they are now certified nurses and were qualified to work in any health facilities in the country.
He urged them to adhere to the rules of professional conduct which are a set of ethical guidelines binding on every nurse in Nigeria.
Earlier, in his remarks, the Acting Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Dawood Egbefo said the inductees are the 2033/2024 qualified Bachelor of Nursing.
Egbefo, who said the ceremony was the fourth batch for Induction/oath-taking events, opined that the institution had groomed and equipped them to effectively take up challenges in the nursing profession.
He said, ”I want to remind our graduating class of the profound responsibilities that come with being a nurse. This noble profession demands not only deep compassion but also a steadfast commitment to continuous learning and professionalism.
“As future leaders in healthcare, you bear the crucial responsibility of caring for the vulnerable and the ailing, a role that requires unwavering dedication”, he said.
The Acting VC, who commended the state government for converting the central hospital Auchi to Edo State University Teaching Hospital noted that it has significantly improved the training of the medical students and enhanced healthcare standards in Edo North and its environs.
He, however, appealed to the state government to ensure it provides adequate facilities at the hospital in order to offer top-notch healthcare services.
Also speaking, Dr Beatrice Obende, the lecturer in Charge of the Department of Nursing said the inductees graduated with BSC Nursing having spent five years in the institution.
Obende added that the nursing profession was a unique one that adds value to patient care, impacts patient’s well-being and preserves their rights.
“As you embark on your nursing journey, remember that your profession is not just a career, but a calling to make a difference in lives, sacrifices have to be made to care for those in need of your service.
“So, I rejoice with you for attaining this enviable height in both educational and professional career”, she added.
On his part, the Acting Dean of the Faculty of Applied Health Science, Dr Omoruyi Pius Omosigho congratulated the inductees for making their parents and the faculty proud.
He, however, urged them to be a good ambassador of the profession and the university, noting that the school had done its best as a faculty to groom them in learning and character.
He also expressed optimism that they would all make the university proud as they move to the next phase of their training during the internship.
