AFCON 2025: CAF will not sanction Nigeria over Libya snub – Oparaku

Former Super Eagles defender, Mobi Oparaku, is confident that the Confederation of African Football, CAF, will not sanction Nigeria over the cancelled 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Libya.

The Group D second leg clash was called off by CAF following the Eagles’ ordeal.

Libyan authorities diverted Nigeria’s flight to a remote airport, where they were denied food, water and Internet for over 18 hours.

Following the incident, the Super Eagles players decided not to go ahead with the game.

CAF eventually delisted the fixture and forwarded the matter to its disciplinary body.

While the verdict of the disciplinary body is still being expected, Oparaku is confident that Nigeria will not be sanctioned because the country has always been a good host to visiting teams.

“CAF knows we are not what is reported by the Libyans, we are not biased, we never maltreat our visitors, CAF knows we can’t do such,” he told Brila FM.

“I am confident no sanction will fall on Nigeria, I believe we will get a fair outcome.”

Despite not playing their matchday 4 fixture, Nigeria top the group with seven points, while Libya are bottom with just one point.
