Arabinrin Aderonke: A tribute to Chief Michael Adeniyi Koleosho, OFR: A legacy of service and leadership

Oyo State, and indeed Nigeria, stands in solemn reflection as we bid farewell to a distinguished leader, Chief Michael Adeniyi Koleosho. His recent passing at the age of 86 has left an indelible mark on the hearts of many, as we honor a life defined by service, integrity, and commitment to the community.

Chief Koleosho was a man of many accomplishments, from his role as Commissioner for Works and Transport during the Second Republic to his contributions to education in Oke-Ogun, his impact is felt in every corner of Oyo state. As Secretary to the Oyo State Government under the late Governor Lam Adesina, he exemplified the essence of leadership through his dedication to the public good. His approach led to advancements in infrastructure and education, particularly through his role in establishing The Polytechnic of Ibadan’s Saki Satellite campus. This institution became a resource for students, transforming the education sector and providing opportunities for countless young Nigerians to pursue their dreams.

Beyond his public service, Chief Koleosho was also an influential businessman and a respected community leader, bearing the title of Babalaje of Saki. His leadership extended to the traditional and political setting as the former Chairman of Afenifere in Oyo State until 1999 and as a former National Chairman of the Alliance for Democracy (AD).

For him, these roles were not merely titles; they were paths to advocate for unity, justice, and the well-being of Nigerians everywhere. His leadership was marked by strength and commitment to these values. He has left an imprint that will not fade, and while we grieve, we also celebrate a life lived with purpose. His contributions to society will continue to inspire those who strive to make a difference in their communities.

He was father to many successful and flourishing children and grandchildren. One of them is Mr. Tayo Koleosho, an accomplished professional and chief of staff to Dr. Zacch Adedeji, the current Executive Chairman, Federal Inland Revenue Service. As both Oyo State and Nigeria mourn the loss of this remarkable man, let us honor his memory not just through words but through actions, let us embrace the values he stood for and work towards improving our communities, just as he did.

May he rest in peace, knowing that his legacy will continue to inspire others for many years to come, encouraging all to lead with compassion and serve with purpose.
