Nasarawa State Police reaffirms commitment to peaceful LGA elections, restricts local security outfits

The Nasarawa State Police Command has reaffirmed its dedication to ensuring a peaceful and secure environment for the conduct of the upcoming Local Government Area, LGA, elections on November 2, 2024.

In a statement released Friday by the command’s spokesperson, DSP Ramhan Nansel, the Police Command, in collaboration with other security agencies, announced a restriction of movement for vehicles, motorcycles, and tricycles from midnight until 4pm on election day.

This restriction excludes essential service personnel as designated by the Nasarawa State Government.

Nansel added that the police have placed a ban on local security outfits, including the Vigilante/Hunters, Nasarawa State Youth Empowerment Scheme (NAYES), Man’O’War, and the Nigeria Legion, from participating in the electoral process.

He said the decision aims to maintain impartiality and avoid potential disruptions during the election.

The spokesperson said the Commissioner of Police, Umar Shehu Nadada, stated that all officers and members of partner security agencies are to operate within the bounds of the law, respecting citizens’ fundamental rights.

He urged voters to turn out confidently, reassuring them that strict security measures are in place to ensure a hitch-free electoral process.
