Police operatives have killed six suspected bandits and recovered a cache of firearms following a gun battle, in Ningi Local Government Area of Bauchi State.
During the operation, police operatives recovered multiple firearms, including AK-49 rifles, a Dane gun, and various locally fabricated weapons.
They also recovered one locally made single-barrel gun, 14 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, and three magazines from the suspects.
Commissioner of Police Auwal Mohammed gave details of the incident while briefing journalists at a press conference held at the headquarters of the command on Friday.
He said the bandits were killed in a gunfight with Ningi Division operatives, who were supported by local security personnel.
In another incident, the police recovered two AK-47 rifles from a 42-year-old suspect, Abdullahi Ibrahim, who confessed to purchasing the weapons from his uncle for N250,000, to protect their cattle.
Alongside the firearms, 343 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition and a magazine were also seized.
CP Mohammed said that Ibrahim would be charged in court following the completion of investigation.
