A newborn baby has been found dead in a refuse dump in Bauchi metropolis.
The discovery was made by residents of Kobi Street, near Wunti Gate, who found the baby wrapped in black leather bags on Thursday.
According to the community leader of Wunti North, Musa Jibrin, in an interview with journalists, the baby was reportedly born the previous day and left to die in the dump.
He stated that upon finding the body, he reported the incident to local authorities and the police.
He said “ I was called early this morning that a lifeless body of a baby girl was dumped behind Alh Babangida Mai Coca-Cola shop where refuse is being dumped and when we got to the place, l discovered the baby tied inside two black leather bags.
“I then quickly reported the matter to my Mai Gunduma who is the hamlet, and he directed me to report to the Police at Township station which l did”
Meanwhile, operatives of the State Police Command have dispatched officers to the scene to collect the body while it commences an investigation.
