Nottingham Forest block Awoniyi from leaving, give condition

Nottingham Forest striker Taiwo Awoniyi faces an uncertain future at the club despite being under contract until June 2027.

The Nigerian international is reportedly seeking a move away from the City Ground before the January transfer window closes due to limited playing opportunities.

Awoniyi has struggled for game time this season, starting just two of Nottingham Forest’s 20 Premier League matches.

With Chris Wood in excellent form, the former Union Berlin forward has found it challenging to secure a spot in the starting XI.

According to Sky Sports UK, Forest are unwilling to sanction Awoniyi’s departure unless a suitable replacement is signed.

The club had shown interest in Feyenoord striker Santiago Gimenez last summer, but it remains unclear if they will revive their pursuit of the Mexican forward.

West Ham are reportedly leading the race to sign the forward, though no formal discussions have been initiated with either the player or Nottingham Forest.
