In a significant development, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB has endorsed ‘The Lekki Headmaster,’ a novel by Kabir Alabi Garba, as the reading text for the Use of English paper in the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UTME.
This move marks a departure from the previous reading text, “The Life Changer,” and is seen as part of JAMB’s efforts to introduce fresh and engaging materials that resonate with the experiences of Nigerian students while promoting national literature.
“The Lekki Headmaster” is a captivating narrative set in the urban landscape of Lekki, Lagos, exploring themes such as leadership, education, and the impact of societal change.
The novel’s setting in a fast-developing area of Lagos allows readers to connect with the issues of urbanization, social change, and the Nigerian educational system in a meaningful way.
As the author, Kabir Alabi Garba, expressed his gratitude, acknowledging the role of his mentors, especially Mr. Jahman Anikulapo, in his achievement.
The novel is expected to be a central part of the UTME preparation strategy, with questions derived from it contributing significantly to candidates’ total scores in English.
With this development, prospective UTME candidates are advised to study “The Lekki Headmaster” comprehensively to excel in the examination.
