Five arrested over fatal beating at Gombe wedding


The Gombe State Police Command has arrested five teenagers for allegedly beating a man to death during a wedding ceremony in Jauro Ali village, Gombe State.

The suspects, identified as Jauro Babawuro (17), Yayaji Bello (16), Baffaji Adamu (16), Babangida Dotti (18), and Yaya Bapati (17), were taken into custody following a report by the victim’s father, Dotti Manu, from Wuro Wandara village.

Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO Buhari Abdullahi revealed that the altercation occurred on December 21, 2024, around 10 p.m., during a wedding celebration.

He stated that the disagreement escalated, and the suspects attacked the victim with sticks, causing severe internal injuries.

Abdullahi noted that the victim was rushed to Kowa Clinic in Tongo, where he received treatment but later succumbed to his injuries. His body has since been deposited at General Hospital Bajoga for an autopsy.

Abdullahi stated, “The case is currently under investigation, and the suspects will be charged to court as soon as the investigation is concluded.”

“We urge anyone with additional information about this crime to come forward. The Gombe State Police Command remains committed to ensuring justice is served and protecting the community from violent crimes.”
