The show has been celebrated not just for its feel-good humor but also for tackling mental health issues with sensitivity. When it first aired, Ted Lasso quickly swept the 2021 Emmy Awards, earning Sudeikis Best Actor, while Hannah Waddingham and Brett Goldstein took home Best Supporting Actress and Actor, and the series itself won Best Comedy.

After an exceptional three-season journey, Ted Lasso has cemented itself as a cultural sensation, garnering widespread praise and clinching 13 Emmy Awards. The Apple TV+ hit wrapped up its third season with what many viewed as a conclusive finale: Coach Ted Lasso returning to the United States after three years of managing AFC Richmond.

While fans assumed this heartwarming sports comedy had reached the end of its story, recent remarks from co-creator Bill Lawrence hint that Ted Lasso Season 4 might still be on the horizon. According to a new report from Deadline, the likelihood of Ted Lasso returning for a fourth season appears to be growing, with a greenlight from Warner Bros. seemingly just around the corner.

Though an official renewal for Season 4 has yet to be announced, enthusiasm from the show’s creative team suggests that serious discussions are underway.

But fans have had to wait a while to get Season 4. When will Ted Lasso return, and which stars will be returning for the latest edition? GOAL takes a look.

Ted Lasso season 4 cast members

According to Deadline, Hannah Waddingham (Rebecca Walton), Brett Goldstein (Roy Kent), and Jeremy Swift (Leslie Higgins) have all secured renewals from Warner Bros. Television. The initiation of talks for a potential fourth season indicates that Jason Sudeikis (Ted Lasso), the creative driving force behind the show, is on board for another installment. His involvement is a clear signal, as the studio likely wouldn’t proceed without his approval. While he is set to return as an executive producer, it’s uncertain if he’ll reprise his role on screen.

No announcements have been made yet about other co-creators and executive producers Brendan Hunt (Coach Beard) and Juno Temple (Keeley Jones), though the studio is expected to reach out to them soon, along with any cast members whose SAG-AFTRA contracts may need updating. Kola Bokinni is set to go amid talk of Ted Lasso returning for Season 4, with the AFC Richmond captain saying “Whatever happens, I’ll be there.”

As for other familiar faces, it’s still unclear who else will be invited back for season four. Nonetheless, the cast has often expressed enthusiasm to return if the chance arises, and many are likely to make guest appearances.

Recently, Matthew Belloni of Puck News reported that Phil Dunster, who portrays the fan-favorite Jamie Tartt of AFC Richmond, won’t be returning to the series due to scheduling conflicts. This absence is likely due to scheduling conflicts, as he is actively involved in two other shows, The Devil’s Hour on Prime Video and Surface on Apple TV+.

Nick Mohammed, known for his portrayal of Coach Nathan Shelley, fueled speculation about his possible return with a cryptic post on X (formerly Twitter). “Told ya!” he wrote, hinting at the potential comeback of Ted Lasso. According to a report from Deadline, other cast members may also be invited to reprise their roles or make guest appearances, though no official announcements have been made yet.

Here are the cast members and characters from Ted Lasso season 3. Stars rumoured to be returning for season 4 are boldened out.

For Ted Lasso to maintain its signature charm and spirit, it’s clear that Ted Lasso himself needs to be part of the equation. One of the biggest challenges for a potential fourth season would be finding a way to bring Jason Sudeikis’ beloved AFC Richmond boss back to England, pulling him away from his family in the U.S. to rejoin the club on its upward trajectory.

There’s always the possibility that the Apple TV+ sports comedy could move forward without Ted steering the ship, with Sudeikis taking on more of a behind-the-scenes role. However, given that the ever-optimistic Kansan is the heart and soul of the series, it’s difficult to picture the show without him making at least some kind of appearance.

As Season 3 wrapped up, AFC Richmond seemed poised to launch a women’s team after Keeley Jones pitched the idea to an enthusiastic Rebecca Welton. This could open the door for Ted to take charge of the squad, setting the stage for fresh comedic moments as he navigates the unique challenges of coaching a completely different team.

Meanwhile, the AFC Richmond men’s side remains in the capable hands of Roy Kent, who has stepped into the managerial role alongside Coach Beard and Nathan “Nate” Shelly. With the club having narrowly missed out on Premier League glory last season, chasing that elusive title could still be front and center in a potential fourth chapter.
