Bundesliga: Alonso ponders Boniface, Schick’s partnership

Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso has said he would consider a two-man attack with Victor Boniface and Patrick Schick in the future.

The duo combined to help Die Werkself beat FC Cologne 3-2 in the quarterfinal of the DFB-Pokal on Wednesday.

It was the first time the pair had played together this season.

Schick scored Leverkusen’s second goal of the game, while Boniface netted the third.

Asked after the game whether the two strikers could play together more often, Alonso responded: “Yes, that’s an option. We decide what we need for every game, and if we think that they can link up and understand what the team needs, it’s an option.”

Bayer Leverkusen will be away to Wolfsburg for a league game on Sunday.
