1. The National Identity Management Commission has identified over 6,000 Niger nationals registered on its database with the National Identification Number. This was as President Bola Tinubu directed an inter-ministerial committee to ensure comprehensive data for the National Social Register for the Federal Government’s social investment programmes.
2. The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu, has been ordered to appear for a hearing on Monday, February 10, 2025, before Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court, Abuja. This was contained in a hearing notice obtained by our correspondent on Friday. The notice, dated January 22, 2025, was addressed to Kanu’s lead counsel, Aloy Ejimakor.
3. The Anambra State Police Command has arrested nine suspects linked to the gruesome killing of Justice Azuka, the lawmaker representing Onitsha North 1 Constituency in the Anambra State House of Assembly. Azuka was kidnapped on December 24, 2024, along Ugwunaobankpa Road in Inland Town, Onitsha, while returning home for Christmas.
4. Ogun State Police Command said it is on the trail of a truck driver who crushed three automobile technicians to death in the Kemta area of Abeokuta on Wednesday. The command’s spokesman, Omolola Odutola, confirmed this to newsmen on Friday, stating that the driver fled the scene immediately after the accident.
5. Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu said on Friday the deluge of requests for state creation may have emanated from the people’s desire to enjoy more dividends of democracy. The Deputy Speaker, who heads the House Committee on Constitution Review said that the House has 30 proposals for State creation before it for consideration, stressing that the aim is for governance to reach those marginalized.
6. The Ministry of Education on Friday clarified that the Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, merely proposed the introduction of a 12-year basic education system. The ministry stated that reports of an immediate policy change on the matter were untrue.

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC, has arrested former Chief of Naval Staff, Usman Jibrin, a retired Vice Admiral and a Deputy Commandant of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, in Kogi State, Adam Yusuf, over alleged diversion of more than N3 billion in public funds.
8. The gunmen who abducted a former Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, retired general Maharazu Tsiga, have demanded a N250 million ransom for his release. A source close to the family, who preferred anonymity, told reporters that the family was contacted and the amount requested.
9. One person has been reportedly killed while six others are hospitalized following Lakurawa terrorists attack at Gulma community in Argungu Local Government Area of Kebbi State. While speaking to our correspondent, Chairman of Argungu local government, Aliyu Sani Gulma, said the terrorists attacked the village around 11.00pm on Thursday while residents of the community were sleeping.
10. The National Agency For Food and Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC, has said that it destroyed fake, expired, substandard drugs worth N4.7 billion in Rivers. The Director General of NAFDAC, Prof. Christiana Adeyeye, made the remark during the destruction exercise at the Rivers state dump site in Port Harcourt on Friday.
