My meeting with Obasanjo not politically motivated – Atiku

Former Vice President Alhaji Atiku Abubakar stated that his visit to former President Olusegun Obasanjo on Monday was purely a courtesy call and not politically motivated.

Atiku arrived at Obasanjo’s Abeokuta residence, located within the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, at exactly 12:37 p.m., accompanied by former Cross River State Governor, Senator Liyel Imoke; former Sokoto State Governor, Senator Aminu Tambuwal; Senator Abdul Ningi, and other political associates.

They were received by elder statesman Otunba Oyewole Fasawe before proceeding to a private meeting with Obasanjo, which lasted approximately an hour and a half.

Speaking to journalists after the meeting at about 2:17 p.m., Atiku reiterated that his visit had nothing to do with politics or the 2027 presidential race.

“I am here on a courtesy call. I am not here to talk politics,” he stated. When pressed further about whether the visit was related to his 2027 ambitions, he firmly responded, “I was not in Abeokuta to see Obasanjo because of 2027. It is purely a courtesy visit.”

Similarly, attempts to get Tambuwal to comment on the purpose of the visit were unsuccessful, as he also declined to speak on the matter.
