The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, has issued a 30-day ultimatum to the troops of the Joint Task Force, Operation Hadarin Daji, to capture the notorious bandit kingpin, Bello Turji, dead or alive.
The army chief gave the directive on Thursday while addressing troops at the 1 Brigade Headquarters in Gusau during his visit to Zamfara State.
He emphasized the need for immediate action against Turji, whose activities have continued to escalate violence in Zamfara, Sokoto, and parts of Kebbi states.
“I don’t want to hear about Turji’s incessant attacks, especially in Zamfara, Sokoto, and Kebbi, where he unleashes terror on innocent people. I give you 30 days to get Turji and his lieutenants wherever they are hiding,” Oluyede ordered.
The COAS assured the soldiers that the Nigerian Army, under his leadership, remains committed to their welfare.
He announced a special housing scheme that would allow troops to own homes at affordable rates before retirement.
“We have introduced an owner-occupier housing scheme to ensure that soldiers have decent homes before they retire,” he stated.
He further pledged that adequate logistics and operational support would be provided to the troops to strengthen their fight against banditry and terrorism in the Northwest.
