A fire tore through Bukar village in Konduga Local Government Area of Borno State on the evening of Friday, destroying homes, crops, and livestock.
The incident, which was attributed to a cooking fire, spread rapidly due to strong winds, engulfing several huts and forcing residents to flee.
The fire also consumed a significant portion of the village’s marketplace, destroying small shops and food stalls.
According to a post by security analyst, Zagazola Makama on X (formerly Twitter) on Saturday night, the Nigerian military swiftly intervened, preventing the situation from escalating further.
“The timely intervention of the military helped to contain the inferno, saving many lives in the process,” Makama stated.
He added that the dry weather conditions made it difficult for villagers to put out the fire.
