A former Governor of Kaduna State and member of the ruling All Progressives Congress, Nasir El-Rufai, has said that some President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s economic policies and sequencing are wrong.
He particularly said Tinubu’s economic reforms to bring down food inflation are wrong.
El-Rufai disclosed this in an interview on Arise Television on Monday.
Although El-Rufai believed that some of the economic policies of Tinubu’s administration are requisite, he, however, faulted the government’s approach to tackling food inflation, which stood at 26.09 percent after the recent Consumer Price Index rebasing.
According to him, food inflation reduction cannot be achieved by destroying domestic agriculture through importation.
He added that most of the people in Tinubu’s administration lacked the quality to implement the government’s reforms.
“I don’t want to pass any judgement on the government because anything I say can be tagged as a criticism.
“Most of Tinubu’s economic policies are the right orthodox policies, but the sequencing is wrong.
The quality of the people implementing the reforms leaves more to be desired.
“I think some of the reforms are wrong. You don’t reduce food inflation by destroying domestic agriculture through importation for instance”, he said.
Recall that in July 2023, Tinubu had nominated El-Rufai as minister, but his nomination was turned down at the Senate.
