Fire Service rescues 39 trucks during inferno at Kwara Tipper garage

Kwara State fire service on Tuesday saved 39 trucks from destruction during a fire outbreak at Alagbede Tipper Garage in Ilorin, Ilorin South Local Government Area of the state.

The fire incident occurred at about 01:35 hours, according to the spokesman of the state fire service, Hassan Adekunle in a statement in Ilorin on Tuesday.

He said firefighters responded swiftly, and arrived at the scene to find a fleet of trucks, some of which were already engulfed in flames.

“Through the gallant efforts of the firefighters, the fire was contained, limiting damage to only three out of the 42 trucks in the tipper garage.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that the fire originated from a waste collection truck that had been parked with refuse still inside.

“The refuse contained lit charcoal, which smoldered and eventually ignited, spreading to two other trucks before being extinguished.”

Director of the state fire service, Prince Falade John Olumuyiwa, urged the public to remain vigilant and adopt strict fire safety measures to prevent such incidents.

He said the state fire service remains committed to protecting lives and property through proactive fire prevention and swift emergency response.
