Arewa Yoruba Youth, AAYY, have described the imposition of a state of emergency in Rivers State as a wise decision, noting it would restore sanity and healthy political environment in the state.
A statement issued by the group’s National Coordinator, Ambassador Lawal Hussein Taiye, said the political crisis could have resulted in unprecedented chaos that will bring a serious setback in the political history of Nigeria.
The group said the suspension of all elected members of the Rivers State House of Assembly and appointment of Vice Admiral Ibokette Ibas (retd.) as administrator to take charge of the state’s affairs is commendable.
The statement read, “It is absolutely right for a father to intervene when two brothers refused to stop fighting after all efforts made to settle them failed. President Tinubu did the right thing to declare a state of emergency to give room for better consultation for peaceful coexistence in Rivers state.”
“l believe this will go a long way in bringing all the major players in the conflict back to their senses towards ensuring a better society that will restore normalcy and guarantee a conducive political and social system.”
Hussein, who is also the Coordinator, Tinubu Mukeso group appealed to Nigerians to keep sentiments and political affiliations aside to be patriotic in their approach to national issues for the overall development of Nigeria.
