Manchester United face Arsenal in race to sign Victor Osimhen – report – Man United News And Transfer News

Manchester United are facing quite the challenge when it comes to luring Victor Osimhen to Old Trafford this summer.

Near the end of May, The Peoples Person relayed that United had entered the race to sign the Napoli striker in the upcoming transfer window.

Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain were named as competitors for the Nigerian striker’s signature, making United’s task of securing Osimhen’s signature that much more difficult.

While Rasmus Hojlund has proven to be a solid signing up front for United last summer, scoring an impressive 16 goals in his debut season for the club, it’s clear that he’ll be in need of support.

Following Anthony Martial’s departure from the club, Hojlund remains the club’s only natural striker, meaning that a backup will be required so as not to exhaust the 21-year-old.

With 17 goals and four assists in 32 matches this season, it comes as no surprise that Osimhen is believed to be on United’s radar.

Of course, this follows Osimhen’s exploits the season prior where he plundered 26 goals and five assists to lift Napoli to Serie A glory with the club securing their first league title in almost 30 years.

Now, with Napoli reportedly seeking a replacement for Osimhen, the race to sign the goal-machine has heated up like never before.

La Gazzetta dello Sport reported that Napoli are hoping that a potential suitor will pay the striker’s €120 million release clause.

While the Italian publication claimed that Chelsea are withdrawing from the race given that incoming manager Enzo Maresca prefers other strikers, new competition may arise in the form of Arsenal.

Although Arsenal could certainly hamper United’s efforts to sign Osimhen, further complications could follow with Saudi Arabian clubs also believed to be interested in exploring a move.

Despite his undoubted talent, United may be better off looking elsewhere given the player’s massive release clause.

What’s more, having such a high-profile striker could stunt Hojlund’s development should striker duties be shared too often.
