Abuja: Why I supervised Gishiri demolition — Wike

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has explained that he personally supervised the recent demolition of a settlement in Gishiri, Abuja, to prevent sabotage.

He made this known during a media chat on Wednesday.

According to him, the demolition was limited to areas within and around the road corridors in Gishiri.

He warned residents against attempting to undermine the federal government’s efforts to develop the nation’s capital.

“When they see that a road is planned for an area, they hurriedly put up structures to claim compensation. We will not tolerate sabotage.

“We are not taking all the land, only a road corridor. It is a road corridor,” he stated.

It will be recalled that the FCTA recently demolished parts of Gishiri, a suburb near Maitama, to make way for road construction.
