Belgium’s Alexander Doom broke the European Athletics Championships record in Rome on Monday, 10 June to take the gold in the men’s 400m final with a blistering time of 44.15.
After narrowly missing the podium on the opening day of the 2024 European Athletics Championships with a fourth place finish in the mixed 4x400m final, this is his first ever European Championships title.
Great Britain’s Charles Dobson put pressure on Doom as they flew around the track, but the Belgian worked the second bend to fly across the line and land on the top 10 list of fastest Europeans to ever run the 400m. The Netherland’s Liemarvin Bonevacia took the bronze, finishing within a second of Doom (44.88).
