Bayern Munich are reportedly chasing an Arsenal star in the summer transfer window in what could potentially reunite the star with Vincent Kompany.

Kompany has only just been unveiled as Bayern Munich’s new manager, but he is already looking to bring in a former player to bolster his squad.

The 38-year-old was the manager of Belgium Pro League side Anderlecht until 2022, and during that time managed current Arsenal midfielder Albert Sambi Lokonga, who he now wants to reunite with in Germany.

Lokonga’s Arsenal career struggled to take off and the Belgian has spent most of the past two seasons on two separate loan spells, first with Crystal Palace and then with Luton Town.

Having now returned to the club, after being narrowly relegated with Luton Town, despite some impressive performances, Arsenal are now said to be open to the departure of the 24-year-old.

Transfersdotcom have reported that Bayern Munich would prefer a loan deal for the midfielder, despite Arsenal’s preference for a permanent deal, and it remains to be seen if a deal will be reached.

Fans were somewhat surprised by this news, but shared the sentiment that only a permanent deal would make sense, with one commenting: “Permanent or nothing. Kompany knows the player well. No need for a test drive.”
