Per a release from the DFB, Bayern Munich youngster Aleksandar Pavlović is out of the EUROs because of his bout with tonsillitis:
Due to illness, Aleksandar Pavlović will no longer be able to be in the squad. National coach Julian Nagelsmann has today substituted Emre Can from Borussia Dortmund for the FC Bayern Munich player. The 43-time national player and 2017 Confederations Cup winner is expected to arrive at the team base camp in Herzogenaurach later today.
German national team boss Julian Nagelsmann explained why he called Can over some other candidates like Bayern Munich’s Leon Goretzka.
“We want another number six in the squad and have therefore decided to nominate Emre Can. He immediately expressed his enthusiasm and willingness to join the team. We wanted to have another player in the squad who has played a lot of games and who knows how to deal with the pressure. He can well fulfil the profile that we need now,” Nagelsmann said.
Bayern Munich teammate Jamal Musiala commented on Pavlović’s unfortunate situation at his press conference today as well.
“It’s a real pity for him. He was very happy to be there. He was also good in training. But he will definitely stay positive,” said Musiala (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
