Car bomb explodes on Tel Aviv highway, two injured

A suspected car bomb exploded on the Ayalon Highway near the La Guardia interchange in southern Tel Aviv, injuring two people, Israeli authorities confirmed on Sunday.

The explosion, which occurred on the southbound lanes, caused significant damage to several vehicles and led to the temporary closure of the highway, further disrupting the already busy afternoon commute, police said.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the blast, though no official statement has been made regarding potential motives.

The Magen David Adom emergency service reported that two people—both in their mid-30s—were treated at the scene.

“One victim is in moderate condition, while the other sustained light injuries,” a spokesperson for the rescue service said. Both were transported to a nearby hospital for further treatment.

While car bombs in Israel are often linked to organized crime rather than terrorism, authorities have not ruled out any possibilities as the investigation continues.

Images from the scene show charred vehicles and a heavy police presence as forensic teams examine the area.

Traffic on the Ayalon Highway has since been partially reopened, but delays persist as authorities work to determine the source of the explosion.
