Ceasefire: It’s time to use all diplomatic tools on Russia – Ukraine

Ukraine’s Foreign Minister, Andrii Sybiha, has said it is time for his country to use all diplomatic tools to make Russia accept peace.

Sybiha made this statement in a tweet on X on Monday, sharing an image of the EU’s foreign affairs council meeting in Brussels, which he joined via video call this morning.

“Now is the time to use all of our diplomatic tools to make Russia accept these peace steps. Unconditionally, like Ukraine did,” he said.

“I also focused on efforts to strengthen Ukraine’s and Europe’s defence capabilities and self-sufficiency, advance sanctions policy, and proceed on Ukraine’s EU accession path. Together, we will realise the new strength of Europe.”

This comes after Sybiha stated last Friday that Kyiv has begun examining how to monitor any ceasefire along the frontline of its war with Russia, which spans over 1,300 km.

He also announced that a team would be set up to oversee the monitoring of any truce.

President Donald Trump of the United States is urging Russian President Vladimir Putin to accept a ceasefire proposal that Washington has negotiated with Ukraine.

Last Thursday, Putin welcomed the plan in principle but outlined a list of conditions, suggesting that there would be no swift agreement from Moscow, prompting scepticism in Kyiv.

“In order to avoid possible provocations from the Russian side, we need to be prepared,” Sybiha said.
