Don’t undermine govt – Uzodinma tasks newly inaugurated monarchs


Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma has tasked the newly inaugurated monarchs and other Traditional
Rulers to use their positions as chief custodian of their immediate environment to ensure security and effective leadership in their respective domains.

He gave the charge at the Government House during the issuing of staff of office to new Traditional Rulers presented to him by various autonomous communities.

Uzodinma said that the event marked a significant moment for the communities, as their chosen Traditional Rulers have been given new tasks of looking after them and to ensure peace and security reign.

He further said that with much expectations of their people resting on their shoulders, they must ensure leading the people with justice, uphold the law, and stand as pillars of support for both their communities and the Government.

The Governor pointed out that the role of government is not to elect Traditional Rulers but to carry out the wishes of their people who have found them worthy to be crowned.

“You are here because your people chose you. That trust is sacred,” he said.

He reminded the monarchs that their authority stems not from the statehouse but from the hearts of their people, adding that any community without a Traditional Ruler is not a community.

The number one citizen of the State emphasized the indispensable role the Traditional custodians play in bringing their people together.

“You must ensure law and order in your communities, we will not hesitate to dethrone anyone found colluding with criminal elements or undermining the policies of government,” he said.

On the Ezes who emerged through hereditary, the Governor advised them to uphold the legacies of their fathers and grandfathers by defending the law of the land which they struggled to keep.

He added, “Your job is to lead your people, and the Government will support you, But do not do anything to undermine the Government”.
