Edo Guber: CAN holds prayer session for successful, violence-free election

Ahead of Saturday’s Governorship election, the Edo State Chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, has organised a prayer session for a violence-free and successful election in the state.

DAILY POST reports that the association organised the prayers on Thursday in Benin City.

Speaking at the prayer session, Apostle Irekpono Omoike, the State Chairman of CAN, charged the electorate to vote for the candidate of their choice.

Omoike, said the prayers become imperative, particularly against the backdrop of several threats arising from the political campaigns in respect of the gubernatorial election.

According to him, Edo is known to be peaceful and the prayer session was to intercede so that a credible candidate with the fear of God, who would love the people and respect constituted authorities, especially traditional institutions, would emerge the winner of the election.

“The prayer is to have a governor who would uphold the tenet of integrity which is the benchmark of sustainable governance in the state right from the Midwest and Bendel eras”, he said.

The CAN chairman urged the people to embrace peace before, during and after the election, adding that elections should not be seen as a do-or-die affair.

The prayer session which featured prominently all the Christian denominations in Benin, was also targeted to bring peace and wade off untimely deaths, attacks, and other forms of electoral infractions in the state.

Members of the association drawn from the 18 Local Government Areas in the state included Pastor Itua Ighodalo, the younger brother to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, guber candidate, Asue Ighodalo, the Secretary, Edo State Christian Pilgrim Welfare Board, Aigboje Irabor among others.
