Edo: Philip Shaibu lists achievements as deputy gov amid ‘fight’ with Obaseki

The deputy Governor of Edo State, Philip Shaibu, has listed his achievements ahead of the Governor Godwin Obaseki’s administration’s handing over.

Shaibu said under the current administration, Edo State was ranked number one sports destination, education was transformed, healthcare revitalized, and infrastructural developments were recorded.

Posting on X, Shaibu applauded people of the state for their support, encouragement, and partnership while in office.

According to Shaibu: “Welcome to November, a month of thanksgiving and transition.

“As I reflect on our eight remarkable years in office, I am filled with gratitude for the trust Edo people have placed in us. It has been an honour serving as your Deputy Governor.

“As we prepare to hand over the reins, I am proud of our achievements: from making Edo State the Number 1 Sports destination, to transforming education, revitalizing healthcare, down to infrastructure development. Our administration’s mantra, “Making Edo Great Again” (MEGA), has been more than just a slogan – it has been our guiding principle.

“To my fellow Edo citizens, I thank you for your support, encouragement, and partnership. Your resilience and determination inspire me every day.

“As we transition, I urge you to remain committed to our shared vision of a prosperous, inclusive, and vibrant Edo State. Let’s continue to work together to build a brighter future for ourselves, our children, and generations to come.

“Here is to a smooth transition and a brighter November.”

Shaibu endured a difficult time in office as deputy following a fallout with Obaseki.

The fallout led to Shaibu’s impeachment by the state House of Assembly but an Abuja Federal High Court had upturned and restored him back to his office.

Amid the face-off, the embattled deputy governor defected to the All Progressives Congress.

During the recently conducted governorship election, Monday Okpebholo of the APC defeated the Peoples Democratic Party candidate, Asue Ighodalo.

Ighodalo was Obaseki’s anointed candidate but he lost in the election.
