Fenerbahce manager, Jose Mourinho, has “encouraged” Sporting Lisbon boss, Ruben Amorim to take the Manchester United job.
Mourinho, who himself is a former United manager, has served as a mentor to Amorim.
In 2018, Amorim completed an internship at Mourinho’s High Performance Football Coaching course.
According to The Sun, when approached after Erik ten Hag’s sack, Amorim spoke with Mourinho.
The older Portuguese has advised him to accept the role.
Sporting have already confirmed that United have triggered their manager’s £8.5million (€10m) release clause.
But it is also understood that Amorim wants to delay his move to England until after Sporting play Manchester City in the Champions League in Lisbon, next Tuesday.
