EPL to issue PSR points deductions this week with Chelsea, Man Utd walking tightrope

The Premier League is expected to issue “disciplinary charges” against clubs that have been deemed to breach its profitability & sustainability rules, PSR, this week.

The Guardian reports that the Premier League has given its financial and legal departments 14 days to study the books of clubs who are in danger of a PSR breach for the 2021-24 accounting period.

The affected teams are expected to receive possible charges by Monday or Tuesday.

According to the report, Manchester United have “little room for manoeuvre”.

It also claimed Chelsea’s “huge losses” in recent years put the Blues at risk, too.

United’s pre-tax loss quadrupled to £131 million last season while Chelsea’s combined pre-tax losses over the past two years stands at £211m.

The other teams that need to be careful are Leicester City, who escaped a points deduction in 2024.

Also, Nottingham Forest and Everton – both of whom were docked points last season for PSR breaches. Newcastle United are reportedly another side who have to be careful when it comes to PSR.
