EPL: You’re not okay – Ten Hag blows hot over comments on benching Rashford

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has hit out at Sky Sports pundit Jamie Redknapp for suggesting that Marcus Rashford was dropped for their Premier League game at Crystal Palace for “something untoward” behind the scenes.

United played out a 0-0 draw at Selhurst Park, with goalkeepers Andre Onana and Dean Henderson producing excellent saves.

Rashford, who was named Player of the Match after United’s 7-0 win over Barnsley in the Carabao Cup earlier this week, was named as a substitute for the match.

Ten Hag opted to start with Alejandro Garnacho on the left-hand side of attack.

Before kick-off, Redknapp claimed that Rashford may have upset Ten Hag.

He said: “It feels like something has gone untoward.

“You don’t drop a player that scored two in midweek and against Southampton.

“It feels something has happened this week, the manager’s frustrated.

“It’s unusual for a manager to come out and out a player by talking about their lifestyle.”

When asked about Redknapp’s comments after the game at Palace, Ten Hag replied: “Yeah, I heard already the speculation, some pundits…that is crazy.

“Then I would almost say as a person you are not okay when you bring such speculation if you don’t know what’s [going] on.

“This is just rotation; we have many games to cover and we have more than 11 starting players but we have to give all the players, if they perform, we will give them chances.”
