U.S. President Donald Trump on Wednesday claimed that the European Union, EU, was formed with the intention of exploiting the United States.
Speaking at his first Cabinet meeting, Trump said: “Look, let’s be honest, the European Union was formed in order to screw the United States. That is the purpose of it. And they have done a good job of it. But now I’m president.”
Trump also announced plans to impose 25 per cent tariffs on imports from the EU into the U.S.
Meanwhile, speaking about Ukraine, Trump ruled out NATO membership for the country as President Volodymyr Zelensky prepared to visit to finalise a deal on the transfer of natural resources.
“NATO—you can forget about,” Trump said when asked about a possible deal to end the war. “I think that is probably the reason the whole thing started.”
