Ex-Nigeria coach, Jose Peseiro fails to win second game in charge of Zamalek

Former Nigeria manager, Jose Peseiro, has failed to win his second game in charge of Zamalek of Egypt.

Recall that Zamalek appointed Peseiro as their head coach on February 14, 2025.

The Portuguese signed a one-and-a-half-year contract with the Egyptian Premier League club.

He replaced Christian Gross, who was fired earlier this month.

However, Peseiro, who previously coached Al Ahly, Zamalek’s local rivals, led his new club to a 1-1 draw with Petrojet in his first game in charge of the team.

The draw left Zamalek with 27 points in third place in the Egyptian league, trailing leaders Pyramids by three points and arch-rivals Al Ahly by two points.

Peseiro then made four changes from the Petrojet game, including Mohamed Atef, who made his second appearance of the season.

The 64-year-old again drew against Al Ahly over the weekend as the Cairo derby ended in a 1-1 draw.

Substitute Achraf Bencharki gave Ahly the lead in the 72nd minute, but Mahmoud Bentayg equalized for Zamalek six minutes from time.

“I think Ahly were better in the first half but without clear scoring chances, apart from the shot that hit the crossbar,” Peseiro told a post-match press conference.

“The draw is a fair result between the two sides,” he added.

Zamalek’s next match is against ZED at the Cairo International Stadium on Thursday.
