Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca will leave both Ben Chilwell and Cesare Casadei out of his squad this weekend for the visit of Morecambe in the FA Cup third round.
Speaking to the media on Friday, Maresca admitted that he did not want the players to pick up injuries, which could hinder their exit from Stamford Bridge.
“Chilwell, I think, is thinking at this moment that he is probably going to leave, so it’s better to avoid using him to prevent any kind of situation, injury, or those kinds of things.
“It’s more or less the same [for Casadei]. At this moment, the plan is to not give him minutes in case there is an opportunity for him to go and play,” Maresca said.
Chilwell has made 107 appearances for the Blues since he arrived from Leicester City in 2020.
However, Maresca has barely used the 27-year-old this season, and he is set to leave for more playing time.
Casadei is attracting interest from Feyenoord and Monza.
The Italian midfielder also wants more first-team football and will only be allowed to leave on loan.
