In a tragic incident, a couple and their four children reportedly lost their lives in a truck accident at around 8:30 a.m. on Sunday, September 29, 2024, in Gusau, the capital of Zamfara State.
The heartbreaking accident occurred at the Gusau Hotel roundabout, leaving the community in shock and mourning.
According to eyewitness reports, the truck driver was reversing when he accidentally collided with the victims, who were travelling on a motorcycle. The force of the crash proved fatal for the family of six, whose bodies were later recovered by operatives of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).
The truck driver fled the scene immediately after the accident, prompting efforts by authorities to track him down.
Reedwan Abdulazeez, a member of the Yoruba community in Gusau, confirmed the tragic incident on Facebook, stating that the victims were laid to rest on Sunday evening under Islamic rites. Security expert Zagazola Makama also corroborated the details of the accident.
The community has been left devastated by the loss, as friends and neighbours pay tribute to the family.
The FRSC has urged drivers to exercise caution on the roads, especially in high-traffic areas, to prevent such fatal accidents in the future. Investigations are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing truck driver.
