After weeks of closure following student protests over the consistent deaths of their colleagues along the Felele-Crusher highway, the management of the Federal University Lokoja has ordered the reopening of the institution.
According to a brief statement by the Registrar and Secretary to the Council of the Federal University Lokoja, Dr Rebecca Aimiohu Okojie, on Monday, the institution will reopen on Tuesday, 11 March 2025.
Okojie noted that the decision to reopen was the outcome of an emergency Senate meeting held on Monday in Lokoja.
Her statement read: “Following ongoing efforts and consultations in several quarters to address the challenges that led to road mishaps resulting in the loss of five (5) students and serious injuries to others, Senate, at its emergency meeting held on Monday, 10 March 2025, approved the reopening of the university with effect from tomorrow, Tuesday, 11 March 2025. However, lectures will commence from Monday, 17 March 2025.”
The Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University Lokoja, Prof. Olayemi Akinwumi, confirmed this development to DAILY POST on Monday evening.
