Residents of Bode Saadu in the Moro local government area of Kwara State are sad following the heavy downpour that displaced many in the community.
It was gathered that the rain overflowed the Arinun bridge in the area and submerged many houses in the area.
Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s team that toured and sympathised with the residents said that houses on the river bank were flooded, forcing some residents to seek accommodation.
Bode Saadu community is on the Ilorin-Jebba federal highway, a few kilometers from Jebba dam.
Some residents told newsmen that flooding is a constant experience in the Jebba community, saying: “this time around, it is the turn of Bode Saadu”.
They explained that the flooding was because a high volume of water was unable to pass through the makeshift bridge on the express road.
Abdulrazaq on Thursday, sympathized with the victims and immediately directed the State Emergency Management Agency to provide relief materials for the victims as engineers inspected the area.
Accompanied by the state Commissioner for Special Duties, John Bello, and Special Adviser (Special Duties) Abdulrazaq Jiddah, the governor went around the affected areas in the community to have a firsthand account of the situation.
In their remarks, residents of the area commended the governor for the visit, which they said again pointed to his commitment to the welfare of the people.
The governor also promised to” intensify our efforts to ensure that people observe setbacks for the safety of all.”
John Bello, who hailed from the area, commended the governor for the visit.
