Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has announced that his administration will establish a task force modelled after the Department of Government Efficiency, DOGE, created by former U.S. President Donald Trump.
Trump had originally founded DOGE and appointed billionaire adviser Elon Musk to lead the agency.
Musk and DOGE were tasked with modernising federal technology and software to enhance governmental efficiency and productivity.
However, speaking at a press conference in Tampa on Monday, DeSantis stated: “We are creating a state DOGE task force that will implement a multi-pronged approach to eliminating bureaucratic bloat and modernising our state government to best serve the people of Florida in the years ahead.”
DeSantis added that the task force would be “similar to the federal DOGE” but would operate for a limited time.
“It will have a one-year term and will be dissolved upon completion of its mission,” he said.
This initiative will make Florida the latest state to replicate the White House’s DOGE programme.
