Four dead, ten injured in Gwaram auto crash

No fewer than four people have been confirmed dead, and ten others injured following a tragic motor fire incident in Gwaram Local Government Area of Jigawa State.

The spokesman for the Jigawa State Police Command, SP Lawan Shiisu Adam, confirmed the incident in a statement issued to DAILY POST.

According to the statement, the accident occurred on Saturday at about 4:00 PM when a white Hummer bus with registration number ZAK 382 XA caught fire. The vehicle was transporting 44 passengers—25 adults and 19 children—from Zaki LGA in Bauchi State to Rabadi village in Gwaram LGA.

SP Shiisu explained that the fire broke out near Government Girls Unity Secondary School, Gwaram. The fire reportedly originated from the vehicle’s exhaust, which made contact with a mattress tied to the back of the bus.

Tragically, four passengers—Zuwairah Hassan, Fatima Hassan, Iyatale Hassan, and Halima Muhammad, all from Saldiga village, Zaki LGA, Bauchi State—were burned beyond recognition.

Ten injured passengers were rushed to Gwaram Cottage Hospital for treatment, while the remaining passengers were safely rescued. The bodies of the deceased were later released to their relatives for burial.

The Jigawa State Police Command has urged motorists, particularly commercial drivers, to avoid overloading passengers and goods, adhere to speed limits, and conduct regular vehicle inspections to prevent similar tragedies.
