German media react to Jadon Sancho’s display for Borussia Dortmund in Champions League final

Jadon Sancho was on the losing side at Wembley for Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League final against Real Madrid.

Manchester United will have been watching keenly as Jadon Sancho started in the Champions League final for Borussia Dortmund.

Ultimately, it was a night to forget for the Englishman and Old Trafford fans had tonnes to say afterwards on X.

United also won’t have been happy with what they witnessed, as his poor performance along with Dortmund losing the final makes it unlikely that the £73m winger will be purchased this summer.

After the game, the media in Germany had lots to say about Sancho’s appearance in the final loss as he now will head back to Carrington in June.

After the cup final, German media had a lot to say about how Sancho performed in the final.

Ruhr24 wrote: “Not always consistent enough in defensive behaviour. For example, when he let Vinicius Junior run on counterattack (49th). His unnecessary ball loss made possible the decisive corner for Real (74th). A used [second-hand] day of the man, which is actually supposed to make the difference for BVB. As with Ian Maatsen: Hopefully not his last appearance in black-yellow.”

Another outlet to give a review was Sky Germany: “[Some] danger in the first half with some dribbling and passes, but [his performance] dives in the second half and remains inconspicuous.”

A third to review Sancho was RAN, which wrote: “The Englishman falls a little in his homeland compared to his teammates. Hardly any significant actions forward, disappointing despite his work backwards. Grade 5.”

Finally, SportBuzzer also gave a review: “Hard to brake on the right side for Real. With a few dribblings for the gallery. In the end, however, not good enough for a final victory.”

What next for Sancho after Champions League final defeat?

Sancho will be absolutely devastated by the outcome of the cup final as he was spotted looking distraught with his silver medal.

This comes exactly one week after Manchester United beat City in the FA Cup final which was a special day for the club.

Where Sancho goes next is tricky to say, as it’s unlikely he will be afforded a permanent move this summer with United not keen to sell for cheap.

The 24-year-old has two options this summer, one will be to return to Dortmund or potentially elsewhere on a loan, where he can continue to rebuild his career before United can sell next season.

The second option is that he remains at United, being afforded a second chance at the club, although this is unlikely, especially if Erik ten Hag is still in charge given the strained relationship between the two.
