Gunmen abduct 3, injure 4 in Kogi highway attack

Suspected armed kidnappers have attacked travelers along the Ayere-Kabba federal expressway in Kogi State, abducting three passengers and injuring four others.

Injured victims have been rushed to St. John’s hospital in Kabba for medical treatment.

Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency expert focused on the Lake Chad region, disclosed this on Tuesday in a post on his X handle.

Makama stated that the incident occurred on Tuesday, citing intelligence sources.

“According to police sources, the attack occurred around 3:00 p.m. when the assailants suddenly emerged from the bush and forcefully stopped two vehicles a Hummer bus and a Toyota Camry sedan.

“The gunmen then abducted three passengers whose identities have yet to be confirmed, while four others sustained varying degrees of injuries,” Makama said.

He added that “the hoodlums carried out the ambush in a coordinated manner, forcing the vehicles to a halt before whisking away the victims into the bush”.

Meanwhile, a joint operative comprising of the troops of the Nigerian Army, Police and local vigilantes, were mobilized to the scene and launched a search operation to track the kidnappers’ hideout and ensure the safe rescue of the victims.
