Frenkie de Jong made a return to action as Barcelona thrashed Young Boys 5-0 in the Champions League on Tuesday.
De Jong, who had been sidelined for nearly five months with an ankle injury, came on in the 75th minute to a warm reception at the Camp Nou.
The Dutch midfielder had not played since injuring his right ankle in a Clasico match against Real Madrid in April.
Talking about his return, De Jong expressed his joy: “I’m really happy with the win and, personally, to be back playing.
“The fans gave me a good reception, and I’m grateful,” he added.
Robert Lewandowski led the charge for Barcelona with two goals, while Raphinha, Iñigo Martínez, and a Young Boys own-goal rounded out the scoreline.
Manager Hansi Flick praised De Jong’s comeback, saying, “It was important for him to feel like a football player again.”
