The Ogun State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Adijat Adeleye, has disclosed that a headmaster identified as Ashafa Afelaja has been arrested for allegedly sodomising a female pupil (name withheld).
DAILY POST reports that Afelaja is the headmaster of a private school at Eyin Ogbe, Igode near Ogijo in Adamo, Ikorodu, a border community between Lagos and Ogun states.
Afelaja was said to have been picked up
after a human rights activist named Adetoun Onajobi, popularly known as justadetoun, on Saturday on instagram brought the incident to the notice of the state government.
According to justadetoun, the fistula of the minor was “messed up resulting to bleeding”.
The commissioner in a statement made available to DAILY POST on Monday, said the perpetrator is presently in police custody.
Adeleye stated that the ministry is following up on the rescued child and mother for necessary attention and further action.
She said, “Our rescue team has intervened in Adamo, Ikorodu, a border community, following reports of a school headmaster physically assaulting (sodomize) a young female pupil.
“While the perpetrator is presently within the police custody, we are following up on the rescued child and mother for necessary attention and further action.
“We want to assure the public that the victim is receiving the necessary medical care and psychological support.
“The Ministry remains resolute in securing justice for all survivors of abuse and will continue to work with Law enforcement agencies to ensure swift and decisive action against perpetrators.”
She added that the Governor Dapo Abiodun-led administration will continue to maintain zero tolerance for gender-based violence, child abuse and other types of domestic abuse.
The commissioner further urged the public to be on the lookout and report any incidents of child abuse, domestic violence, and other forms of human maltreatment on the spot.
