House of Reps announce new deputy chief whip


Nigeria’s House of Representatives has announced Ibrahim Ayokunle Isiaka, APC, Ogun as the new Deputy Chief Whip of the Green Chamber.

The announcement was made by Speaker Abbas Tajudeen during Tuesday’s plenary session, following consultations with the Majority Party, the All Progressives Congress, APC.

Rep. Isiaka’s appointment follows the passing of the former Deputy Chief Whip, Rep. Adewunmi Oriyomi Onanug, APC, Ogun, in January 2025.

“Following consultations with the All Progressives Congress, APC, Caucus and other stakeholders from the South West, the Leadership of the House has received and accepted the recommendation of Honourable Isiaka Ibrahim to serve as the Deputy Chief Whip of the House of Representatives,” the Speaker stated.

Rep. Isiaka, who represents the Ifo/Ewekoro Federal Constituency of Ogun State, until his appointment served as the Chairman of the House Committee on National Planning and Economic Development. A ranking member since his election in 2015, he has held several key positions, including Chairman of the Committee on Ecological Funds and Deputy Chairman of the House Committee on Governmental Affairs, and he has chaired numerous ad hoc committees of the House.
